Instant

Instant is a real-time sync engine that gives your frontend a local database backed by IndexedDB. Queries resolve locally, mutations apply optimistically with built-in undo, and everything syncs across clients via WebSockets. Includes auth (magic codes, Google, Apple, GitHub), file storage, presence, broadcast, and Stripe-powered payments out of the box.

On the backend, data is stored as triples in Postgres. The server watches the WAL to detect writes, maps them to active query subscriptions, and pushes only affected data back to clients. Permissions use CEL expressions defined alongside your schema, inspired by Google Zanzibar.
